Resigned: Monica Duca Widmer (Vice-Chairwoman)
Monica Duca Widmer has been a member of the ENSI Board since 1 January 2016 and Vice-Chairwoman since 1 January 2018. She resigned from the ENSI Board at the end of July 2019.
After gaining experience in the international food industry, she specialised in process engineering and safety in the environmental protection field from 1990 onwards, setting up Ecorisana SA in 1992, working in the remediation, waste disposal and safety sector.
After graduating as a chemical engineer from ETH in Zurich (ETHZ) and being awarded her doctorate from the Università degli Studi di Milano, Monica undertook further training in the Center for Corporate Governance at the University of St. Gallen, and also studied safety in chemical and process engineering plants at ETHZ. Alongside her scientific activities, she also gained experience in managing a variety of companies and foundations. For example, between 1995 and 2007 she was a member of the Federal NBC Protection Commission (NBCCom), a member of the ETH Board between 1998 and 2008, and a member of the FH Council of the Scuola Universitaria della Svizzera Italiana (SUPSI) between 2004 and 2015. She is a serving member of the Federal Communications Commission (ComCom) (Vice-President), the Lucerne UNI Council and the Federal Energy Research Commission (CORE). She is also Vice-President of the Swiss Academy of Engineering Sciences (SATW) and Chair of the Administrative Board of Migros for Ticino. She is active in a number of foundations promoting research into scientific fields. Monica is a member of the Swiss Society of Engineers and Architects (SIA), Swiss Engineering (STV) and the Swiss Association of Women Engineers (SVIN).
Since Decembre 2016 she is President of the University council of the Università della Svizzera Italiana (USI).
