Pierre Steiner will step down from the ENSI Board at the end of 2012 after five years of service. Mr Steiner, who is 69, cites his age as the main reason for his decision. The ENSI Board regrets his departure and wishes to thank Pierre Steiner for his work and his great dedication.

The Federal Council has elected the ENSI Board, the body responsible for strategic management and internal supervision of the Swiss Federal Nuclear Safety Inspectorate (ENSI), for the next four years. It has therefore ensured that the ENSI Board has the necessary specialist expertise at its disposal, and that it will benefit from a good international basis.

The Federal Council announced today (Wednesday) that it has amended the Ordinance concerning ENSI. This involves a more precise definition of the implementation provisions regarding the independence of members of the ENSI Board. The amendment that has now been adopted means that the Federal Council provides a more precise definition than hitherto of the types of commercial activities and relationships, official functions and scientific activities which are not compatible with membership of the ENSI Board. The new implementation provisions on independence come into force on 1 November 2011.
