Responsibilities and remit of ENSI

Laws (acts), ordinances, guidelines and fundamental technical/scientific knowledge provide the basis for the assessment, supervision and monitoring of nuclear installations. All of these sources contain the safety requirements and criteria to which ENSI’s assessment activities are geared. ENSI continues to develop guidelines and fundamental knowledge in accordance with the state of the art in science and technology. For example, the guidelines define radiological protection objectives and requirements for the operation of nuclear installations, as well as the arrangements for reporting on the operation and the organisation of nuclear power plants; they also stipulate the requirements for waste management, interim storage and storage in deep geological repositories.
